Exploring the plethora of reserves surrounding us has been incredible! On a recent expedition just 10 minutes from our home we discovered a stunning place Rooisand Nature Reserve (is a part of the greater Kogelberg Nature Reserve) where about 20 or so free-roaming wild horses reside right on the coastline!
This place is a hidden gem and is easy to drive past the entrance…something we had done many times. Dramatic skies on a beautiful cape winters afternoon made the perfect excuse for us to go and explore the Rooisand Reserve. Within minutes of our walk a beautiful stallion appeared from out of nowhere and put on quite a show for us, he totally wasn’t bothered by our frantic picture taking. Two snow white cattle egrets decided to take part in the photo op and posed nicely with the horse.
Our options of photographic subject matter were insane! The clouds were spectacular and the light that afternoon was perfect, vivid colours literally jumped out at us no matter what direction we looked. We will definitely come back to Rooisand the scenery was amazing with marshlands, beaches and a back drop of mountains, a place one could get lost in picture taking land for hours on end!
